Through diligence, alertness, perseverance and hours of
participation on workshop panels by National and Branch level members the NTESU
has members of the NEC, and, from several of its branches, who participate
in the activities of some of the national role-player organisations in the
tertiary education sector. These members have been selected through
calls for nomination of appropriate and interested members for positions
as called for through public advertisements, or, requests for nominations
sent directly to the Union through mail-lists.
NTESU has been fortunate in being able to
rekindle the profile of UDUSA, our predecessor organisation, and in doing
this has maintained the confidence of organisations in the ability and
commitment of the NTESU and its members towards
transformation, building of the new landscape of tertiary education,
training and practitioner development.
This means that the NTESU can maintain a
good hearing and following brief on the directions and developments at a
national level as these unfold out of the work, publications and
activities of these organisations. We can, and have been able to,
influence developments, guidelines, constitutional, and practice
characteristics within the SETA system, for instance. David Knox
NTESU (Natal) (past NEC member) and Charlie Molepo (past NTESU National President) have both been
involved at the top end of the SETA structure in the past and have been persuasive in
giving direction to the Authority.
In the past there have been several position papers and
commentaries forwarded to the CHE (and the Minister of Education) authored
by John Landman and David Knox, and, this display of interest in, and,
commitment to, events and developments in the field of tertiary education
has kept the NTESU in the mind's eye of functionaries at the
CHE. |
