The National Administrative Office (NAO)
is the administrative and secretarial organ of the Union under the direct
control and guidance of the National Secretary its functions are defined
in the Constitution.
The NAO
will be headed on a day-to-day basis by a General Secretary (if one has
been appointed). The General Secretary is an appointed employee of
the Union and is appointed in terms of the Constitution according to the
means of the Union (as are all NAO employees).
If
the Union cannot afford to appoint full, or part-time, employees all of
the functions of the NAO must be taken on by the National Office Bearer
portfolio holders.
The NAO
liaises with Branches as directed by the National Executive Committee in
order to communicate decisions of the NEC, or issue requests for
information from the NEC. NAO staff are responsible for the
day-to-day administration of subscription collection, accounting
(book-keeping) and the carrying out of NEC decisions, purchasing,
dispatch of official press releases, response papers, coordinating the
participation of the Union and its delegates in national level meetings.
Major
direction for the NAO activities is given by the NEC or the National
President - day-to-day direction is given in terms of the Constitution
via the National Secretary, or, the General Secretary under the guidance
of the National Secretary, or via the National President.
